    The stars must have been aligned right for St. Catharine College athletic director Mike Doig. Upon taking the job at SCC last July, Doig set one of his main priorities as the expansion of the athletic offerings, including a track & field program and cross country. But finding a coach to start a program from scratch would no doubt be a formidable task.

    Katie Filiatreau, Springfield native and 2005 graduate of Washington County High School, hit the hardwood again in Washington County this past Thursday night. But instead of wearing the WC blue and gold of the Commanderettes, she was wearing the black and orange of the Georgetown Tigers.

    The St. Catharine College men and women traveled to Pikeville for a basketball doubleheader Saturday. Next to the trip to West Virginia, the Pikeville jaunt is the longest conference excursion of the season. And viewing Saturday’s results, the ride home was even longer for the two Patriot teams.

  • Cheerleaders head to regionals

    The Washington County High School Cheerleaders will compete at noon this Saturday in the KAPOS regionals at Central Hardin High School in Elizabethtown.

    The girls will be competing against cheer squads from Bardstown, Elizabethtown and Green County for a shot at the state competition.

    The Washington County cheerleaders participate in the KAPOS tournament every year and head coach Christy Brown says Elizabethtown will be the team to beat.

    The Washington County Commanderettes wrapped up their district schedule last Friday night with a 57-26 loss to Nelson County. The Commanderettes now stand at 5-12 on the season heading into Campbellsville this Friday night to square off against the Lady Eagles.

    The Washington County Commanders finished the district schedule last Friday night with a 56-39 loss to Nelson County. The Commanders finish district play with an 0-6 record.

    Arthur Latham, a forward for St. Catharine College, is used to the word “double” when it comes to his performance on the court. The 6-7 junior from North Hardin High School has four times recorded a double-double this season. He is scoring in double figures at 19.3 points a game. He has scored in double digits in 16 of the Patriots’ 17 games this season.
