Washington County vs. Christian Academy of Louisville
5-4 Christian Academy
When: Thursday, April 14
Where: Christian Academy
Game highlights: The Commanders (10-4) came from behind to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning, but Christian Academy (14-5) responded for the win.
“We came back, fought, didn’t get it done, but played competitively against a good team,” head coach Derek Schuler said.
A Ben Simms double put him in a position to score off a Thomas Spalding single to knot the game. Spalding finished with two hits to lead the Commanders.
A one-out double would end the game for the Commanders, as Christian Academy won 5-4.
Spalding took the loss from the mound, giving up four hits while striking out two batters.
Blake Smith hit a home run in the top of the sixth inning to cut a three-run lead to one. He brought in Trae Abell, who reached base on a single to open the inning.
Christian Academy pounded the Commander pitching staff for 12 hits, while the Commanders had five.
Because of weather and other factors, Washington County had several days off in between their last game in Florida (April 8) and their game against Christian Academy (April 14).
“We had some days off there, and we came out a little bit dead,” he said.
