The city of Springfield has traditionally held its Independence Day Celebration on July 3 – giving residents ample opportunity to have a celebration here at home and then travel to other surrounding towns for another celebration on July 4.

This year’s celebration looks to be one of the best celebrations yet hosted by the city. Starting at 6 p.m., local vendors will open up their booths at the event site behind the Judicial Center. Washington County Cattleman’s Association will be serving their famous beef, Hog Run BBQ will be serving their barbecue and Burton Hatchett’s daughter,Katrina, will be here with her Suga Mommas operation. Lots of tables and chairs will be available but it is always a good idea to bring your own lawn chairs.

River of Life Community Church will again sponsor the “Big Slide and Giant Bounce House Combo” for the kids. The slide/bounce house will be located behind the Presbyterian Church.

Free concerts start at 7 p.m. with The Kelly’s singing old-fashioned tunes and sing-a-longs! Dan Kelly’s grandchildren put on a great performance and will entertain the crowd until 7:45 p.m. Big Black Cadillac comes on at 8 p.m. and plays until 11. It is at intermission—around 10 p.m.—that the great show of fireworks start. A montage for the fireworks can be heard on Radio WLSK 100.9 FM.

This is the 18th year that the city of Springfield has hosted the Independence Celebration. Mayor Wakefield invites all our residents to come out to the event on July 3 and to pass the word to other communities. It is a fun-filled night of celebration.
