Springfield National Guard unit set to deploy to Afghanistan

Approximately 15 members of the 613th Engineer Facilities Detachment will mobilize in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on June 20 (today) at 1 p.m. from the River of Life Community Church, 1250 Kentucky 555, Springfield, Ky.
While deployed, the unit will lead a group called the Infrastructure Training and Advisory Group (ITAG).
The mission of the ITAG is to train and advise the Afghan National Army Engineers and Afghan National Police Engineers on techniques for everyday maintenance and sustainment operations of the facilities and supporting infrastructure on their bases.  
Since September 11, 2001 more 14,000 Kentucky National Guard Soldiers and Airmen have deployed in support of the Global War on Terror.  The Kentucky National Guard currently has nearly 400 troops in Afghanistan and around the globe.
