    Geraldine  ‘Jerri’ Newton, 82, of Jeffersonville, Ind., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 at Clark Memorial Hospital, Jeffersonville, Ind.
    Survivors include her daughter, Debra Sharp of Jeffersonville, Ind. 

    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 3 at Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, with interment to follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Manton. Rev. Chris Allegra will officiate.

    Laura Mae Clements Voorheis, age 88, a resident of Windsor Gardens and formerly of Springfield, died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 at her residence.

    Born Aug. 8, 1923 in Springfield, she was preceded in death by her parents, Benedict and Mary Joseph Filiatreau Clements; her husband, William Harvey Voorheis Jr.; a daughter, Anne Marie Marks; a grandson, David Keith Fannon II; two brothers, Rucker and Cornelius “Biscuit” Clements; and four sisters, Mary Arthur Kelly, Rita Smith, Margaret Keene and Dorothy Wheatley.

    Nannie Elizabeth Thompson, age 89, of East High Street, Springfield, passed away at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

    A native of Washington County, she was born on Jan. 3, 1923 to the late George Albert, Sr. and Mary Ellen Clark Logan.
    She was a member of the Johnson Chapel AME Zion Church, where she served as the church organist for over 40 years. She was a homemaker, enjoyed cooking and was a seamstress.

  • Mary ‘Rita’ Winters, 79


    Mary Edgaurita  ‘Rita’ Winters, age 79, of Manton, passed away Friday, Mar. 2, 2012 at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center, Louisville.
    She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Morgan (Bill) of Louisville.

    Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Mar. 5, 2012 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Manton, followed by interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Chris Allegra was the celebrant.
    Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto was in charge of arrangements.

    Mary Pearl Coulter, 88, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Lula Mattingly and William Coulter; son, Roger Coulter; granddaughter, Sharon Roberts, and grandson, Daniel Vick Coulter.

    J.B. Matherly, age 82, of Polin Road, Willisburg, passed away at 10:28 a.m., Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 at the Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.

    A native of Washington County, he was born on March 26, 1929 to the late Ralus and Audrey Blacketer Matherly.
    He was a member of the Willisburg Church Of God Of Prophecy, a retired employee of the General Electric Company of Louisville and a farmer.

    Barbara Lou Carrico Kelty, age 75, of East Virginia Avenue, Springfield, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

    Born Oct. 15, 1936 in Washington County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Adrain and Mary Elsie Hamilton Carrico; her husband, Ernest Russell Kelty; two brothers, Frankie and Ritchie (Killer) Carrico; four sisters, Mildred Carrico, Diane Hutchins, Judy Wray and Jeanette Noel; and a granddaughter, Alyssa Kelty.

    Amy Frances Dean Key, age 84, of Springfield, passed away at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 at the Springfield Nursing & Rehab Center.

    A native of Washington County, she was born on Nov. 28, 1927 to the late Rufus and Mary Benham Weakley.
    She was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church and a homemaker.

  • Donald Pinkston, 87


    Donald Pinkston, age 87, of Harrodsburg Road, Mackville, passed away at 6:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

    A native of Washington County, he was born on June 18, 1924 to the late Urban and Ida Gray Pinkston.
    He was a member of the Mackville Christian Church where he served as a deacon for 42 years, a lifelong farmer and served as a trustee for 20 years on the Peter Cemetery Board in Mackville. He served in the United States Army for two years.

  • Michael James Sallee, 21


    Michael James Sallee, age 21, of Battle Road, Mackville, passed away early Saturday morning, Feb. 18, 2012 on Highway 53 about two miles north of Willisburg, due to injuries sustained in a single automobile collision.

    He was born on March 7, 1990 in Sarasota, Fla.
    He was an employee of Wal-Mart of Lawrenceburg, where he worked in the tire and lub express.
    Preceding him in death was his paternal grandfather, James Walter Sallee.
