  • Tammy Jean Yocum, 46

    Tammy Jean Yocum, age 46, of Melavin Circle, Springfield, passed away at 3:10 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    She was born in Lebanon, Ky. on Feb. 15, 1966 to the late James Joseph and Margaret Ann Fogle Yocum.

  • J.W. Powell, 72

    J.W. Powell, age 72, of Danville, passed away at 2:45 p.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

    A native of Washington County, he was born on May 9, 1940 to the late Richard M. Sr. and Annie Mae McMichael Powell.

  • Ray Burkot, 61

    Ray Burkot, 61, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. 

    He is survived by his wife, Jan Burkot of Bardstown; daughter, Emily Burkot of Bardstown; and two sons, PO2 Andrew Burkot of USN San Antonio, Texas and Simon Burkot of Bardstown. 

  • Sherley Ray Cook, 75

     

    Sherley Ray Cook, 75, of Mount Washington, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at his residence.  

    Survivors include his wife, Mary Annette Hedges Cook; his sons, Michael Ray Cook of Jeffersontown and Steven Lee Cook of Taylorsville; his daughters, Marci Annette Flechler of Taylorsville and Stacey Elizabeth Brown of Bardstown. 

    Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16 at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Taylorsville, with Reverend Sanford Hill officiating. Interment followed in Valley Cemetery. 

  • Robert Dedman

     

    Robert Dedman, of Louisville, formerly of Willisburg (Tatum Springs community) passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Baptist East Hospital.

    His parents were the late R.C. and Ophia Dedman.

    He is survived by his wife, Imogene Bennett Dedman; and son, Jon Barry Dedman.

    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10 at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home. Burial was at Cave Hill Cemetery. 

  • Eugene Young, 95

     

    Eugene Young, age 95, of Conway, S.C., formerly of Marion County, passed away at 8:38 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Conway, S.C.

    A native of Boyle County, he was born on May 17, 1917 to the late Grover Cleveland and Lettie Coyle Young.

    He was a member of the Tilly Swamp Baptist Church of Conway, S.C., a graduate of Danville High School and formerly owned and operated the Little Giant Food Store in Bradfordsville.

  • William Albert Maupin, 81

     

    William Albert “Bill” Maupin, age 81, of 5053 Springfield Road, Bardstown, died at 8:47 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.

    Born May 24, 1930 in Marion County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Lee and Mary Lucy Mattingly Maupin; four brothers, Joseph Clarence, Paul Joseph, Charles Robert and Louis Burton Maupin; a sister, Edna Mae Maupin; and a son John William “Billy” Maupin, May 10, 1986.

  • Orland Hardin, 99

     

    Orland Hardin, age 99, of Froman Lane, Springfield, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 6, 2012 at his home.

    A native of Washington County, he was born on Feb. 18, 1913 to the late Frank and Bessie Cocanougher Hardin.    

    He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, 1934 graduate of Springfield High School, a retired farmer and a former crop surveyor for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

  • Mary Blanche Parrott, 90

     

    Mary Blanche Parrott, age 90, Mackville, widow of William Parrott, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at the Danville Center for Health.

    Survivors include two sons, Steve Parrott of Mackville and Bruce Parrott of Harrodsburg.

    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Scott Vifquin.  Burial was in the Battle Cemetery, Springfield.

    Pallbearers were Blake Sims, Chaise Sims, Zachary Poe, Will Goodlett, Adam Goodlett, Alex Goodlett and Alyssa Poe.

  • Anne “Rita” Dobson, 59

     

    A Louisville resident, Anne “Rita” Dobson, age 59, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at her residence. She was the former Rita Lanham of Bardstown.

    After receiving her Masters of Education she began her teaching career with the Archdiocese of Louisville and taught for 36 years, including St. Polycarp and Holy Cross Catholic Schools. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

    She is preceded in death by her father A.D. Lanham and her sister Rose Marie Lanham.
