  • Izaiah Rekeem Bedwell, infant

     

    Izaiah Rekeem Bedwell, 22 day old son of Kendall Smith and Christopher Wilhelm passed away at 5:20 p.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.

    Survivors include his mother, Kendall Smith of Springfield; his father, Christopher Wilhelm of Bardstown; maternal grandmother, Kendall Garrett of Springfield; paternal grandmother, Mary Bedwell of Bardstown; paternal great-grandmother, Sharon Cavanaugh of Cox’s Creek.

    A private service was held Monday, May 7 at Carey & Son Funeral Home.

  • Brenda V. Scruggs, 56

     

    Brenda V. Scruggs, age 56, of Frankfort, passed away at 5:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

    She was born in Mason County, Ky. on Feb. 14, 1956 to William R. “Billy” and Wilma Replogle Scruggs.

    She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frankfort, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the church choir and the handbell choir.

  • Nora Lea Hundley Benedict, 82

     

    Nora Lea Hundley Benedict, age 82, of Walnut Street, Springfield, went to her Heavenly reward at 5 a.m., Sunday, May 6, 2012,  at the home of her daughters in Louisville.

    A native of Marion County, she was born on Dec. 5, 1929, to the late Thomas Jefferson and Wadie Caudill Hundley.

    She was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church, the Fidelis Sunday School Class, a 1948 graduate of Lebanon High School and a homemaker.

  • Emma Ruth Hill Chesser, 87

     

    Emma Ruth Hill Chesser, age 87, formerly of Murphy Lane, Bloomfield, passed away at 2:20 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Life Care Center in Bardstown.

    A native of Nelson County, she was born on January 3, 1925 to the late Joe H. and Eunice Hood Hill.

    She was a homemaker and a member of the Willisburg Church Of God Of Prophecy.

    Preceding her in death were her husband, Cleo G. Chesser on Feb. 8, 2008; two daughters, Bernice Hudson and Margaret Chesser; a sister, Ethel Bobblett; and three brothers, Vernon, Carroll and David Hill.

  • Sr. Kathleen Mattingly, 102

     

    Dominican Sister of Peace Kathleen Mattingly, 102, a native of Hardinsburg, Ky., died May 1, 2012 at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Ky.

    Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 4 at Sansbury Care Center Chapel. Burial was in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.

    Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

  • Orland Hardin, 99

     

    Orland Hardin, age 99, of Froman Lane, Springfield passed away at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 6, 2012 at his home.

    He is survived by his wife, Ruby.

    Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at Carey & Son Funeral Home.

    Visitation 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.

  • Mary Sally “Kit” Graves, 79

     

    Mary Sally “Kit” Graves, age 79, of 316 E. High Street, Springfield, died at 3:58 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    Born April 22, 1933 in Washington County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Eliza Logan Cooper; a sister, Evie Ann Cooper and her husband, Rufus Graves, July 27, 2011.

    She was a 1951 graduate of Rosenwald High School and had worked at Medco Center and Springfield Nursing & Rehab for over 35 years. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church.

  • Thomas Joseph Young, 97

     

    Thomas Joseph Young, age 97, of Springfield, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Springfield Nursing & Rehab Center.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Myrtle Isabell Reed Young.

    He is survived by his wife, Stella Johnson Young of Springfield, three daughters, Myrtle J. Lyons of Lexington, Mary Cedonia Young and Stella Yantis, both of Springfield.

  • Philip Leo Luckett Sr., 61

     

    Philip Leo Luckett Sr., 61,  of Versailles, husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Gardner Luckett, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at his home in Versailles.

    He was the son of the late William Eugene and Elizabeth Florine Abell Luckett.  

    He is survived by three sons, Philip Leo Luckett Jr. and Matthew Ryan Luckett M.D., both of Lexington and Michael William Luckett of Versailles.

  • Edith Humes Pinkston, 89

     

    Edith Humes Pinkston, age 89, of Main Street, Willisburg, passed away at 12:20 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2012 at Norton Healthcare Pavilion in Louisville.

    A native of Washington County, she was born on June 1, 1922 to the late Ruben and Annie Smith Humes.

    She was a member of Fairview Christian Church and a homemaker.

    Preceding her in death were her husband, Bernice Pinkston on January 2, 1998, a half-brother and two half-sisters.
