    Washington County will play three games in three days before starting the new year off with district action.

  • 4-H members attend conference

    Each year, approximately 32 Kentucky high school 4-H members are selected to attend National 4-H Congress.  Until about eight years ago, the conference was held each year in Chicago and now the annual conference is held in Atlanta.  
    To be selected, 4-H members have to be in high school, complete a level of the Kentucky 4-H Honors program and go through an interview process.  

  • Poinsettia demand hits peak this time of year

    Many people who dream of a white Christmas also like to bring a little of the tropics into their homes, by decorating with poinsettias.
    The irony is sun-loving, warm-weather preferring poinsettias can easily be damaged by the temperatures that accompany a white Christmas, said Rebecca Schnelle, state extension specialist for floriculture and greenhouse crops in the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture.

  • BIRTH: Glasscock: It's a girl!

    Joslin Belle Glasscock, daughter of Nathan and Jessica Glasscock of Danville was born Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010 at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center at 4:22 a.m.
    She weighed 7.12 pounds and was 20 inches in length.  
    Maternal Grandparents are Joe and Linda Terrell of Mackville.  
    Paternal Grandparents are Lee and Wanda Glasscock of Lebanon.

  • BIRTH: Dean: It's a boy!

    Marcus and Jill Dean of Lexington announce the birth of their son on Nov. 13, 2010 at 10 p.m. at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.  
    Carter Bryce Dean weighed 6 lbs, 15 oz and was 20 inches in length.
    Maternal grandparents are Lee and Wanda Glasscock of Lebanon.  
    Paternal grandparents are Darrell and Penny Dean of Willisburg and Darlene Dean of Louisville. 

  • Tonight's WC basketball games are postponed

    Tonight's basketball games against Bethlehem have been postponed. Games have not been rescheduled yet but will be since it is a district game.

    Many Washington Countians woke up this morning to find everything in sight covered by ice, and we at The Springfield Sun were no different. While the ice and winter weather are no fun, we decided to see if our readers could have some fun looking at a few local scenes, covered in ice.   • Rumpke to work today, Saturday collecting trash

    The show must go on, and trash collectors with Rumpke will be busy today and even Saturday covering ground lost due to Thursday's ice and snow. A spokesperson with the local Rumpke office said the company will be collecting trash today, as well as Saturday, Dec. 18, to make up for the lost day of service to customers yesterday.
