  • State to review plans for new high school


    The first day of classes for the 2014 school year will be Aug. 4, and if plans go as scheduled, that’s the date the new Washington County High School will open its doors.

  • Patriots finish tournament 1-1

    Just as every Mid-South Conference team, St. Catharine College views the Georgetown Tigers as the team to beat each year. And this year, after meeting them last weekend in an early season tournament, J.T. Burton’s team will have three chances to upend the league’s perennial heavyweight.
    Make that two chances now, as Burton’s bunch dropped a 78-66 decision at Georgetown Friday in the first round of the Andrew Elswick Memorial Tournament. The Patriots, however, did make amends on Saturday with an 81-50 rout of Southern University-New Orleans.

    Washington County football fans will remember the 2010 season as one that saw the Commanders return to winning form. Much of that success can be attributed to the WC defense, which managed four shutouts during the season, including a big 3-0 upset over rival Marion County.

    Jody and Elizabeth Raley announce the birth of their daughter at 3:19 a.m. on Sept. 22, 2010 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville.
    Ella Claire weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20.5 inches in length.
    Maternal grandparents are Charles Dudley and Shirley Tapp.
    Paternal grandparents are Joe Denny and Janice Raley.
    Maternal great-grandparents are Leo and Regina Carrico and Dudley and Georgia Mae Tapp.
    Paternal great-grandparents are the late Tom and Agnes Edelen and the late Dennis and Virginia Raley.

  • Engagement: Mattingly-Riley

    Denise Mattingly and Carl Mattingly of Springfield announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jessica Brooke Mattingly, to Benjamin Everett Riley, son of Rita and Everett “Hop” Riley of Springfield.
    Mattingly is  a 2009 graduate of Washington County High School and is employed at Mordecai’s in Springfield.
    Riley is a 2005 graduate of Washington County High School and is employed at O’Reilly Auto Parts in Lebanon.
