  • Commanderettes win All A...

    Grit, determination, and never giving up is exactly what the Washington County Commanderettes did to win the All A tournament this past weekend.

    WC participates in the 12th region for the All A instead of the 5th region they normally participate in.

    WC started the tournament against Burgin High School. It was pure domination for the Commanderettes as they easily handled Burgin. A 11 run third inning won it for the Commanderettes as they moved on defeating Burgin 20-1.

    The Washington County Commanders made a run in the All A tournament over the weekend. The Commanders had a big win to start as they beat Burgin 16-1.

    The Commanderettes won three of their four games at the Cal Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee during spring break.

  • Commanders drop two after extra-...

    After defeating Fairdale in extra innings of the first game of the Keaton Hall Wood Bat Memorial Tournament, the Commanders lost the next two games to finish the series. The two losses came against in-region team North Hardin, and out-of-region team Butler County.

    While WC was only able to get one win from the tournament, it’s important to remember that high school teams do not traditionally use wood bats, but instead still hit aluminum bats.

    Thursday the Commanderettes faced off against Berea. Washington County started with a run in the top of the first inning. Graves led against Berea. Graves saw four pitches before striking out. Maddie Pettus singled for the Commanderettes to get the first runner on the base paths. Trinity Baker came to the plate next for the Commanderettes and an error allowed Pettus to advance all the way to third. Baker then hit a single to shortstop scoring Pettus to give WC a 1-0 lead. Two quick ground outs by WC ended the top half of the inning.

    It wouldn’t be a April Fools’ Day joke. The Commanders took extra innings to do it, but they secured the win. Washington County played it’s first game in the Keaton Hall Wood Bat Memorial tournament on April 1 against Fairdale. Taylor Smith did the majority of the tossing from the mound for WC.

    The Commanders started the season on a 1-3. They have faced three regional opponents so far and have struggled to score in those game. WC’s win has come against an out of region team in Lincoln County.

    The Commanders started the game against Lincoln County with a three up, three down inning. They looked to do the same to LC, but an error at first base put a runner on with two outs. Drew Yates, who started as the pitcher, was able to get a ground ball to get them out of the inning.

    The Commanderettes started the season strong with a 2-1 record. The team had an amazing first game of the season, but a late game rally from the Lady Cardinals of Taylor County was to much for WC as they would lose 14-9.

  • Commanders drop first game of...

    The Commanders finished the pre-season with two scrimmages. One against Anderson County, and another against Mercer. Head coach Adam Blair and the rest of the coaching staff as well as the team all developed throughout the pre-season to prepare for the start of the season.
